Well, as the saying goes, "What a difference a day makes!" We were enjoying unseasonably warm weather for November; the warmest November I can remember. The grass was still green, the lakes were still open, and you could be outside with just a sweatshirt. Aah yes, it was wonderful, but to quote another cliche, "All good things must come to an end." And to an end it abruptly came with the blizzard of 2016!
When I say blizzard, I mean zero visibility, 2 feet of snow, roads closed, no power, water, or heat for 2 days, winds gusting to 40 miles an hour, trees down everywhere...but the aftermath created a magical Winter Wonderland which looks like it came straight out of Narnia. The breathtaking beauty, peaceful solitude, and invigorating freshness of the fresh fallen snow makes the few days of roughing it all worth while!!
This is the beginning of our winter season. Soon there will be guests arriving to enjoy this beautiful Winter Wonderland. We are getting the snowshoes ready and hoping to finish our outdoor wood fired Finnish Sauna in time for our first retreat in January.
Our Little Log Chapel in the Woods is getting all decked out for the holidays as we prepare to host an early Christmas service in December and another winter wonderland wedding in February.
Yes, winter truly is a magical time here at Wilderness Lodge. There's always a fire burning in the fireplace, fresh coffee to share, and a warm welcome to all.
